Hello,
I'm using Windows XP SP2 on a Pentium 4 machine with 512 Meg of RAM, and
have just noticed that all my Restore Points have mysteriously
'disappeared'.
I keep an eye on the restore points quite regularly and up until a couple of
days ago they were being created daily. However, last night when I checked
System Restore there were no bold dates showing for January, I was unable to
click the back button on the calendar to check December 2006, and in the
right panel there was a message "There are currently no restore points
available.".
One interesting thing I noticed was that this morning, after starting the
computer, I left it idle for about one hour but a System Restore Point was
not created. I have since successfully created a manual Restore Point,
however.
After doing many searches of the Microsoft knowledgebase, and the internet
in general, I am at a loss to know what could have happened.
"Turn off System Restore" is unchecked.
"Disk space to use" is set at 12% (9157 MB), and my 75 GB hard drive (which
is not partitioned) still has 64 GB (86%) available.
"System Restore service" is running.
I'm not using any Norton/Symantec software, and I've scanned for viruses,
spyware, and adware, with negative results.
I would appreciate any help as to why this situation may have arisen, and
what can be done to correct it.
Regards,
John
