Replacing Notepad?

I managed to replace Notepad in XP with Textpad by renaming a Textpad.exe
shortcut to Notepad.exe. Can I do the same thing in Vista??? (also had
to rename the real notepad.exe to Notepad_.exe)

TNKS for your help.

You can rename any shortcut to whatever you like - that hasn't changed.

Another possibility is to right-click on a .txt file (or an example of the
files you want to open with textpad), choose the 'Open with' > 'Choose
default program' option and browse to the location of textpad.exe
(making the process permanent via the 'Always use the selected program...'
checkbox

The next time you open up such a file, it should start textpad instead
