The Thermalright SLK-700 is not a heatpipe design. One of the spare coolers I have may be a SLK-700. Or maybe an SLK-800, not sure.

I have a couple of Vantec stealth fans in the front of my Lian Li PC-61 case which houses my main system. They're not as quiet as they'd have you believe. Luckily, the Lian Li case has three front fan speed options, lowest is Ok, they're there mostly to cool my 2 x 35Gb Raptor drives.

If you want a good, really quiet 92mm fan (measurement is diameter, btw) go for a Zalman 92mm fan, they really are quiet.

The SI-97 or Gigabyte cooler is your best bet. Both are fitted the same way, with cross centre tensioned clip.

Use Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound if you can afford it (it's around £6.50 for a small tube) and only apply a thin, even layer. Take your time fitting heatsink and be careful.

The 92mm fan affixes to the SI-97 by way of two tensioned clips that fix to holes in the side of the heatsink. If you're unsure, buy the Gigabyte cooler with built in fan.

Look, Mr psd99, I hate to say this, but you only get what you pay for. There is no Santa Claus and you won't get decent cooling for a fiver, despite what the (probably bogus) reviews on the supplier's site say.

1. the other option would be to get one of these:
http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=18470
Zalman 92mm Fan

2. along with one of these:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Thermalright_120.html#aHS_2d019_2dTR
ThermalRight SI-97 (Socket A) Heatsink

3. along with this good stuff:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Thermal_Materials_27.html
Artec Silver Thermal Compound

do u think this is a good idea?

I think I will go ahead with this combination
but im worried about attachin the fan onto the heatsink!!!

the gigabyte cooler is just too loud with a rating of 21.2dB this is just too much

beacause i already have a silentboost thermaltake with a db rating of 21 and this is also too much!

if i used this on the spreeze fan to increase its speed! do u think it will make it cooler?

You won't increase the speed using that, you can only decrease it.

(somebody give me strength)

Why? It's easy. If you've managed to install a nb cooler, you can do this.

The three items you've linked to are perfect.

For ****'* sake do it, before you drive me quite loopy ;)

* Sharp intake of breath * ... oh no no no, you MUST use Artic Gold, sooo mucks better only £60 an ounce ... it's obvious the stuff you got is crap at cooling the CPU

I have one of these on my 2500 barton ... http://www.silentpcreview.com/article115-page1.html

just to add ... it was only a fiver. :D

Did you ever check to see if you fitted the dam thing properly?

Sorry for 'toying' with you, but there are HSF out there that "do work" and are cheap ... personally I have never strayed from using the "stock" HSF that comes with the CPU ... until it gets buggered that is.

My Barton has always "seemed" to run Hot ... and it is now fine Crunching 24/7 @ 45/50c :D

I did plash out on a "Hedgehog" once ... boy was that a noisy fan, still got it somewhere. :thumb:

I took out the spreeze fan today
and i put this one in: ( i used this one be4 the spreeze)

http://www.pcloft.com/tha1sibosoup.html

its silent but not that silent
my temperature using the sensor software (after machine has been on for 3 hours..) is:

CPU: 54C
SYS: 43C
AUX: 30C
system fan speed: 2772

would u say that this is okay in terms of temperature?

A tad warm, but a crap load better than the last one ... :thumb:

Is that "full load" or just idle ... ?

i was playing videos and songs
and its been on for almost 4 hours now...

i dont use that machine to do big tasks!
the rating on this fan is 21dbA

im a bit mystified because im not so sure if 21dB is the same as 21dbA?
any ideas

this fan is good but its just SLIGHTLY too loud for my liking.

im considering a FAN MATE controller, it would save me money providing that it works!

if i could just turn down the speed of the fan it would be best!

You need ear plug ... that will solve your "heating" problem.

You don't seem to have grasped the concept of "cooling" a CPU ... and noise. ;)
