do u think its worth removing the thermal paste and using something like:

Antec silver thermal compound (88% silver)

im willing to try this out if it takes 10-15c of the temp
but im not so sure if science will be helping me on doing this!

heap of junk is accepted

but fitting it wrong Im struggling to understand.....
how could I have fitted it wrong?

also why does my bios temp differ from windows then?
i presume when the pc gets into winoows the cpu is working more?

well ignorrance is BLISS! :)
Use any temp reading with a 10% + - accuracy ... even your BOIS is too high for me.

FUD!

Yeah right ... better use Gold, it has a better thermal conductivity over mere silver ...

AMD recommend a "thermal pad" not grease ... wait for the Artic Silver devouties to respond ... FUD ;)

It don't matter what you use really, grease or pad, but not all HSF are that good for a fiver. ;)

Did you watch the AMD Videos ... :thumb:

Don't worry over what was on the HSF as long as you use something ... ;)

yes thanks
i did watch them very nice stuff there from AMD AND its for free!!!!

there r some parts im going to check over!
ill resintall the fan at some point
monitor the temperatures using ur software and vr's

then make a decision

ill be needing a new fan and heatsink
but its got to be v silent
this one is 19dB
my last one was 21dB there is a huge difference in noise

its very hard to find a low noise fan let alone a socket A fan :(

If i were you i'd have gone for the 6th one down (2nd one up) £7.64 from HERE

CopperSilent2Lbluelight.jpg

More info HERE :)

More expensive, Yes. Better cooling, Yes. Few quid more for a better heatsink.

I would be happy to spend a bit more and get a good cooler like the one above. :)

Athlon 2200+ CPUs are good up to about 75 degrees centigrade.

Anything above that and SHUT DOWN

At least tell your software or BIOS to turn your computer off automatically upon reaching such a temp!

My heatsink cost me about £50 and it dosen't really even need a fan :)

Artic Cooling mesure their noise level in sone, i dont know what that would be in DB, But i understand they are fairly quiet. :)

Check out the Gigabyte Coolers. They are a bit more cash but worth it.

I got the 3D Rocket Pro. (See Flops' review in the review section) Its very good.
My pc is on and at full load 24/7 crunching for the WCG. The temp of my overclocked (2.36Ghz) Athlon 3200 is 45 degrees it never gets anywhere near 50. :D Got the fan controller set to the minimum of 2400RPM too. :)

Sure,

Flops' Review :)

Heres the G-Power Pro from Overclockers. Its not the same as the one i got, because i dont think they make it anymore, Its the replacement, but that is just as good if not better. :thumb:
Just be mindful about the size of it, i doubt you'll have a problem but i would try and be sure. :)

Right i gotta go do some work now but will be back later if you have anymore questions. :thumb:

I go down the pub for one evening...... ;)

The cooler Chris has posted above won't fit your CPU/motherboard. The Gigabyte board has no heatsink mounting holes.

The Gigabyte cooler VR has linked to is a good bet, as is the Thermalright SI-97 (5th one down).

I'm using one of those on an XP3200 with a Panaflo medium-flo 92mm fan and getting CPU temp of 48C at full load.

I have a few socket A coolers spare, with fans, if you're interested I'll dig 'em out and tell you what they are.

As all the other guys have said, don't use that computer until you've lowered your temps or you gonna fry your CPU.

well the fan thats in there rite now is the ebuyer 'spreeze' one

first i had a silent heatpipe fan in there this was very good and most of all SILENT
but it started to WHINE ie its just gone it was full of dust i tried to clean it bu it was making horrible noises!!!

so what i did was fit this one as i had it lying around:
http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=17124

it is not exactly this one but its like this but a socket a fan!!!
its the same shape and colour but im not too sure on the specs i coulndt find any link for my one...

this is a good fan but its just SLIGHTLY too loud for my liking
so i came across the spreeze fan and went for that which has put me into a mess!!! :*(

so flopps please tell me that u got a Silent Heatpipe fan lying around for me!

i really want silent thats v important!

lol u have always helped me out of my dark holes..... im hoping history repeats itself

thanks

Nope, no silent heatpipe coolers here, I have, I think, three old thermalright designs, one of which won't fit the Gigabyte board and I can't remember the model numbers of the other two.

It was just a thought but I'd seriously consider the Gigabyte cooler or the SI-97 with a quiet 92mm fan.

could u give me help on finding a 92mm fan
is 92mm a diagonal mesaurement or across?

please help me find a suitable SILENT fan for this heatsink

im a bit worried abt actually installing it!
as ive never done this before.

thanks
