Replacing CPU Fan

Adrian Buer

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my noisy CPU fan with a silent
one. Would I need to buy the fan with a heatsink or will
my old one do, if its the same size? 60mm.

I have an Athlon 1700+

Thanks.

Open your case and have a look inside.

The best solution is o get the same as you already have! It's guaranteed to
fit and work!

Generally you can unscrew or unclip the fan from the heatsink.

If this is possible then you will not have to separate the heatsink from the
CPU. If you need to do this, then you will also have to get new thermal
contact material. Not a good option for a novice.

Buy a heatsink and fan assembly for the specific processor.. if thermal
paste is not included, ask for some.. be careful when fitting it.. take your
time..
