Removing the old CPU fan and heatsink and installing the new one.

I want to know how to remove the old fan and heatsink from my motherboard.
It turns out the CPU is probably good. Now I installed the fan and heatsink
on the PC I built 3 years ago by using a screwdriver and pressing down with a
bit of pressure to engage the hook mechanicism. Now there is different
release points on different mobos. I can see on the Compaq presario 5000 A
stock PC mobo there is a lever that I think you push down on to release the
CPU fan and heatsink?
On the motherboard I'm trying to fix is a model M7VIG 400 mobo that
supports AMD processors.
I just want to remove the CPU and put it into another M7VIG 400 mobo.
There is an AMD processor in it. I bought it 3 years ago from, not Fries,
but the other main PC store that has alot of outlets. Anyways, oh yeah,
CompUSA and it was a bundle package. There AMD bundle.
Ok, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, attilathehun1

What side do you use the screw drive on, the side which you pushed down on
to install it, or the other side? I mean you hook it up on one side then use
the screw driver to apply enough pressure to get it hooked up. Now when
removing it do you push down on the same side you did to install it, or the
other side? Or am I off all together?
I'll read up on the google website, but the first website I went to didn't
say what side or not precise enough information. I know about the CPUs that
you can pull out with enough pressure that aren't hooked up to a clasp.
Ok, enough for now.
Thanks, attilathehun1

Why ask here? What does this have to do with the OS? NOTHING.
Notice the group title. Yes, it mentions HARDWARE but is preceded by
WINDOWSXP.

So you decided to ask it here instead of the General group where you
asked yesterday. Nice Try, but still the WRONG place.

As you've been repeatedly told in other newsgroups, simply follow the
instructions provided by the motherboard and/or fan manufacturers. You
know, the ones that came with the components?

Look, there is a spot where it looks like a screw driver will fit right in,
and I guess your supposed to push down on it and then it releases it. I just
don't want to push so hard and I've never done this before. If someone was
precise and to the point, I'd feel more confident. Getting this off isn't as
easy as putting it on, it seems. What do you think. Is it harder to get the
CPU fan and heat sink off or harder to install it?
I give someone credit, but I guess once you've done it before and your
confident, you probably have no probs.
I'm kinda frustrated here. My last message wasn't posted. I guess Microsoft
looked at it and thought it shouldn't be posted. Ok, I'm kinda glad it wasn't
posted. I lost my cool there, and my dad used to always tell me to Play it
cool.
The side where I hooked it up, isn't the side that I use the screw driver
to take it off? I read the examples and the photos of taking it off and if
you can take it off with your thumb, I give you credit. I'm not Hercules, and
I'm thinking unless I get better and precise information, I'm going to bring
it to a PC tech. I finally am going to break down, and pay a PC tech that I
know, to do it and show me how to do it. That's worth the 10 dollars I paid
to the PC tech to show me how to install it. That 10 dollars was probably the
best 10 bucks I've spent in a long time.

On the contary, ****wit, it's by universal acceptance the right place. A
hardware question in a *hardware* newsgroup. The OP is probably running XP
on his processor which makes it doubly relevant.

Ah ! ...but, is that 10 dollars worth of tuition going to come from someone
who will show you how to do it properly ?
....will it be tuition that includes good tools and techniques to prevent
damage to tiny suface mounted components for example ?
....and if there is no decent anti-static system / earthing straps around,
and he's just walked straight across a carpet before immediately plunging
his hands deep inside your system box - be very suspicious !!

...anyhoooo, there's countless thousands of good web pages detailing how to
tackle your hardware !!
....suggest you do a bit of reading !

Nope, it's not relevant at ALL. This is a physical question that has
NOTHING to do with XP - but you don't seem to notice that WINDOWSXP
precedes HARDWARE in the group title. How can you manage to type and
post when you obviously can't read?

A

attilathehun1

You know RJK I think your exactly right. I don't mind the way you told me to
do more reading. You know how to handle a situation and not get the person
all hot and bothered. Unlike alot of chars we encounter, you handle just
right, at least this time.
Getting back to the CPU heatsink and fan removal, it's seems to be kinda
hard to do, to say the least. Especially this CPU heatsink and fan assembly.
The mobo is a M7VIG 400 and the CPU is an AMD. I can't get the actual name of
the CPU right off hand.
This assembly looks like a real bitch. No, actually I see now that there is
on the other side of the assembly there is a spot that a screwdriver would
fit in perfectly. I have a feeling that's where I would begin to release the
mechanism to get the CPU out.
What is harder to take a heatsink off or put one on? I think to take it off
seems harder, but I've read that the pounds of pressure to use is half the
amount needed to remove it than to install it. Anotherwords, you need 40lbs
of pressure to install it and 20lbs of pressure to remove it.
Any help would be greatly appeciated.
Thanks, attilathehun1
PS This wont take my reply so lets give it another shot.

It is clearly you that can't comprehend English. I have answered that point
on numerous occasions and you clearly haven't comprehended my response.

It is because you are mentally ill and dillusional that you aren't
interested in other people's views and consider that only your obsession is
what matters. It doesn't and that makes you both a usenet nazi and a
****wit.

No, it's your ATTITUDE that amazes me. Just because you and a few
others who are noisy decide it doesn't bother you when people post OT
questions, then those of us who DO mind it and are vocal about it are
WRONG. This attitude of YOURS is what is WRONG.

Of course you can't see this. I deal with dolts like you all day long
who are absolutely convinced that they are 100 percent right and as
such anybody that even hints that they are wrong (when they clearly
ARE) MUST be wrong an not know what they are talking about.

And this is because you are a DIP.

Those of us? There is only one of you. You are the *only* person noising
off about this. It is *your* attitude that is wrong. Everyone else is
perfectly happy with the newsgroup and the way it is used. The rest of us
*do mind* about you incesently posting exactly the same unwanted post
whenever anyone post something that you alone disagree with.

MI5 3/4 has posted the answer to that first scentence at least a dozen
times, and others (including your's truly) have also done so. If anyone
can't see the light, it is you.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that you hold the view that you
just stated. There are many people in this world who are convinced they are
right even when they are totally wrong. Once they have pitched their wrong
information, they just cannot back down from it even when it is demonstrated
that they are totally wrong. You are one such person. I can just see you
in front of your PC seething with rage whenever anyone posts a question that
fails to meet *your* (no one else's) exacting standards. I studied
psychology for 4 years, and you are a straight out of the text book case.
One thing that MI5 3/4 is absolutely right about is that the signs you show
are indeed classical of a serious type of mental illness.

It is you that cannot see. It is you that are the dolt that everyone else
in this newsgroup has to ignore. It is you, and you alone, that is
convinced that you are 100% right when everyone else keeps telling you that
you are 100% wrong. It is you that cannot accept that. Fortunately I don't
have to deal with dolts like you everyday, because virtually everone I work
with isn't dillusional.

Someone (can't remember who) suggested that you were in fact a teenaged
school child. I can find nothing in any of your rantings that dispells that
theory.

Guess what - when I'm wrong I ADMIT I'm wrong. That is NOT the case
here. Read the group title - that says it ALL. Why can't you idiots
SEE THAT? Because YOU all are covinced that YOU are right just
because you don't mind it - but that doesn't make you RIGHT.

I don't know who the f unknown is, but I'm very sure this is the right place
to ask the question. I asked this question about the CPU fan and heatsink and
everyone at Windows XP General told me to come to Hardware and ask the
question. So, unknown don't listen to this fool, you are right about asking
this question here.
Ok, getting back to the question. I just removed the motherboard from the
PC and I see where the hook-up is. Now I can take both my thumbs and press
down but then I need some pliers to move the metal catcher out so I can
remove the heatsink and fan assembly. Now though, I'm looking more closely
and seeing that a screwdriver would fit perfectly where instead of pushing
down with both thumbs, I can use the screwdriver to push down and then take
some needle nose pliers and move out the metal catcher out off of the
heatsink catcher. So, anotherwords move the heatsink down where the
screwdriver seems to go and then use the plier to move out the metal off of
the catchers.
Presto! See, when something is explained in detail, people can get a good
idea of what to do. I have no problems teaching what I've learned to someone.
Now if someone thinks this is wrong, then speak up or forever hold your
raspy tongue.
Thanks, attilathehun1

Not a single one of them has anything to do with Windows XP or the

You spotted it as well. I put him at 13, but I conceed he could be younger.
He did claim in a previous post (and under another name) to be of working
age, but that is clearly not the case, unless he really is seriously
mentally ill, but then who would employ him?
