No, this statement is incorrect. Windows Defender does *not* scan for or
remove viruses; it is an *anti-spyware* application. That being said,
I'm sure it's a fine program.

I do NOT use ad-Aware, or SpyBot.

That's a shame; they are very useful in combating adware and spyware.
I trust Microsoft.

Perhaps we have a semantics problem. When I open Windows Defender, I click
on scan and it scans every item on my computer looking for harmful software.
What do you mean ' does not scan'?

As Daave said, and he is correct, it does not scan for *viruses*. It
scans for spyware.

The point is that there is more than one type of harmful software, and
it does not scan for all of them--just spyware.
