removing weather services

Hi, I cant get rid of the icon of the weather channel. It is located in the
Control panel in classic view. I removed it long ago. It is not even in the
Add & rem prog. area. I try to simply delete it in the control panel, but of
course, it wont.
I have run Clean up, RegscrubXP, MRU blaster, thinking that these might take
away any uninstallment peices left behind. Also, I tried removing in S-mode
with no luck.
when I click to open it, an error box says 'unable to load library wxfw.dll
..attempted to load< key not found>. error 126. when I click 'ok' another box
pops up with the rundll. warning. ANy ideas

Hmm... Click Start > Search > make sure you're searching for hidden files
and folders too > search for all files and folders > enter in *.cpl into the
search box > click enter...

Now, don't do anything just yet... But do you see on that is either in an
old folder in program files that had to do with the application? How about
one that says something about weather? Yes?

If yes then start > run > and type in the name of it like "sysdm.cpl" for
example.

Does it open anything? Yes? That's not it... Try again... <g>

When you find the right one by name and try to run it and you get the same
error do two things. Delete all found instances of it. BUT also check and
see - you probably have a folder hidden somewhere that still has files in it
from the weather program, you can likely delete the entire folder that the
CPL file was in. Note, for now, don't actually Shift + DEL and remove it,
send it to the recycle bin and then use your PC normally for a few days and
see if there's a problem. If there's no problem then don't worry about it
and delete it. If there is a problem restore it and we'll see what we can do
from there.

I have never had such an icon but find the relevant .CPL file in
C:\Windows\System32 and remove it.
If the name is not obvious, then double-click *.cpl files until you
find it.

YEAH! Such a simple thing! I went to C:\Windows\System32 to look for that
file 'wxfw.dll '. I simply deleted it from there. Went to check in the
control panel & it is now gone. So sorry if I wasted your time Galen & Alan.
I should have trouble shooted more. Hope this helps other readers. thanks to
you both.
