Removing IE7

I'm no computer wizzard so I need help Please. I have Xp Home Sp2. I just did
a windows update and installed IE7. My question is this. How do I get rid of
it and get my old version back IE6. Will I still have all my favorites when I
go back to IE6? Is there any way to insure I never get IE7 downloaded again?
I absolutely hate this version. Ive looked around and found a bunch of sites
for 6.0 but where can I go to get what I had (just like it came on my
computer with all my windows updates). I dont want a buch of junk added to
the download.
Thanks for any help

Uninstall it via Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs.

A friend of mine removed IE 7 & this is what she wrote (below). I have it on
3 machines, find that it just drags & everything is so slow, but I am not
going thro the hassle of removing it when it will become necessary
eventually. Hope this helps

I uninstalled IE7 tonight. I got so sick of waiting for it to decide if I
could open a website or not and just decided I didn't like it. I have set &
reset everything on IE 7 & still couldn't open some websites ...kept getting
messages that they weren't available. Went back to the same websites with
IE 6 & everything opened right up. No problems. It uninstalls quickly &
everything is still the same as you left it on IE6. I'll use IE 7 when I
have to and not before. I went into the updates & hid the update, so it
wouldn't automatically download when I'm away from the computer Everything
runs so much smoother for me with IE6 and much faster than with 7, too. And
I like having the email button, so if I want to send someone something on an
email, I can open up one.

Just go into start/control panel/add remove programs. Highlight Windows IE7
and click on 'remove'. Follow wizard and reboot. After which, you will be
restored to IE6 and your favorites will still be there. I found most sites
not ready for IE7 yet! Terry

One of the first things I learned to turn off was the "Phishing filter".

Someday it may be worthwhile. Right now, it's a stumbling block.

Thanks for that info. Where did you go to re download IE6? I just want things
back they way I had them with IE6. I'll use IE7 when 6 becomes so outdated
you can no longer use it. I also like having the e-mail tab.

You don't need to download IE6. After removing IE7, it defaults back to IE6.

I haven't accepted the update yet. What's the best way to avoid it so
Windows Update doesn't keep on pestering you to install it?

Is it being offered via Automatic Updates ? If so, put a check mark in
the box next to " Do not offer this update again " after unchecking the
box next to IE7 and then clicking OK

Just click the 'hide' option on the windows update details.

Thanks for all the info everybody. I now have IE6 back the way I used
to. I sure hope they fix IE7 before IE6 becomes so outdated it no longer
works. I had IE7 for aprox 5 minutes before I decided it had to go. I was
ready and willing to do a total restore just to get rid of it. You all saved
me a lot of time and trouble.
Thanks again

if you simply uninstall
ie7 via a/r programs,
your previous version
will be restored.

in regards to favorites,
you can search your
disk for your favorites
folder and simply make
a copy of them into a
spare folder.

then if you do loose the
original set of favorites,
you can simply copy them
back from your spare
folder.

You should also note that is SP3 is installed after IE7, you can no
longer uninstall IE 7 without first uninstalling SP3.
