removing dual boot

Hi at present my computer is dual booting with my 40GB hard drive
partitioned in 2 with win 98 on C: and win XP on D: I have slowly replaced
the old programs and peripherals so that now I no longer need to have Win
98. I therefore want to completely remove Win 98 from C: and replace it with
Win XP so that Win XP is on C: and then unpartition the hard drive so that I
only have one partition.
I know that I can change the boot.ini file so that there is no menu choice
but that is not what I want because I also have a 120GB hard drive that I
eventually want to put into my computer and replace the 40GB hard drive. I
also know that I could start from the beginning and do a fresh install of
Win Xp on the new hard drive but after spending months getting this computer
set up the way I want it I do not want to do that. What options do I have?
I also realise that changing the drive from D: to C: could cause problems
with file locations so I probably would be better starting all over again.
The 40GB hard drive is eventually going to end up in another computer.
Thanks Tricia

Tricia, you could image your XP partition using Ghost, Drive Image or
Acronis True Image. Then restore it on the
120G drive. From the Recovery Console you can do a Fixboot, Fixmbr and
Bootcfg which will repair the boot.ini file.
For right now you can delete everything on the C: drive except:
ntldr, cmldr, boot.ini, bootsect.dos and ntdetect. "Tricia"
