Remove security for local hard drive

M

Mark Alsop

Is it possible to remove the security settings for the local hard drive?

When testing web pages on my local system with XP/SP2 installed I must tell
it to allow blocked content every time I try to check my work in IE. Most
annoying! (I assume it is blocking the javascript in my pages)

Also, HTML help files for Adobe products have similar problem. Since
anything on my local hard drive is safe I would like to disable this new
feature if possible.

TIA

Hi Mark,

This is a feature of Windows XP SP2. BTW, to disable the restrictions in the
Local Machine Zone, registry edit is required, depending upon what content
the HTM file executes. (Runs a Script, Installs an ActiveX control,
initiates a file download ?)

The changes need to be done here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\0]

Description of Internet Explorer security zones registry entries:

"Allow active content to run in files on my computer" under Internet Options

registry. "

First, thanks for the response, I read through all the linked pages, it was
very helpful...

I am assuming that the phrase "Allow active content to run in files on My
Computer" means that when IE loads an HTML file from the local hard drive it
will also allow it to run active content, such as javascript, which is also
loaded from the local hard drive... but not allow HTML files loaded from the
web run active content loaded from the local hard drive, right?

which is also loaded from the local hard drive...
True.
It runs, but it again depends upon the security settings for the Internet
Zone, not for Local Machine Zone.
