Remember User Name and Password

How can I get FP 2003 to remember the user name and password necessary
for when I publish to my ISP? The "Connect to www.xxx.xxx" box (which
has pictures of keys on a ring) has an option to check for "remember
my password, but even when I check that FP does not remember either my
user name or password.

The username and password is remembered by Internet Explorer.
In IE, Tools->Internet Options
Security Tab
Click Trusted Sites
Click the Sites button
Add your web site to the zone (you may have to untick the box "Require
server verification...")
Click OK
Click Custom Level on the Security Tab (still on Trusted sites)
Scroll down to User Authentication and select "Automatic Logon with current
username and password"
click OK, click OK

Note that you will no longer be prompted for username/password.

This suggestion does not work. I am still prompted for the user name
and password each time.

Can the problem be in some setting in FrontPage 2003 itself?

When you go to File Menu | Open Site and you get the dialog with all of the site you have open
listed, double click the site you want to open, the login dialog should appear, but should already
be filled in, if you have selected to save login info previously, just click the Ok button.

I do not understand the instructions your were kind enough to post.
If I go to File | Open Site, I get a screen with the files that are in
the Front Page web that is open. I do not see how I can view or enter
any login dialog.

When you go to File Menu | Open Site and you get the dialog with all of the site you have open
listed, double click the site you want to open, the login dialog should appear, but should already
be filled in, if you have selected to save login info previously, just click the Ok button.

Try with no site open.

File Menu | Open Site when the dialog opens, you may have to click on My Network Places, then double
click on the live/remote site that you want to open, the login dialog should load, but should be
filled in with the User ID and password, click Ok.

I still do not understand. I tried what you suggested, but there is
no reference to any specific website under the "My Network Places"
folder. I store the FrontPage web on my c:\ root directory, but
double clicking on it just opens the FrontPage file.

Try with no site open.

File Menu | Open Site when the dialog opens, you may have to click on My Network Places, then double
click on the live/remote site that you want to open, the login dialog should load, but should be
filled in with the User ID and password, click Ok.

Chuck,

I can't remember which version of FP you are using, but the following is for FP2000, but is similar
to FP2002, FP2003

File Menu | Open Web
Open Web dialog box appears
Make sure Look in: is set to Web Folders or you can click on My Network Places, lower left of the
dialog box
Double click on the web site you want to open, this would be a web site that you had previously open
and chose to have the login info saved.

I'm still not there. I moved the FrontPage web files to the "My Webs"
folder instead of having it located directly on the c:\ root. I then
opened FrontPage 2003, clicked on "File" then "Open Site." Then I
went to My Network Places and found the reference the URL for the
subject website. I double clicked on it and filled in the user name
and password information, The result is that FrontPage 2003 (or my IE
6 browser) still does not remember the user name and passwords.

In general on your local machine, you do not need to login to a disk-based web.

You don't double click the URL in My Network Places, you double click the URL in the FP File Menu |
Open Site dialog where you see the list of URL you have previously open in FP.

FrontPage Passwords are stored by Internet Explorer.

In IE, Tools->Internet Options - Security Tab

Click on Trusted Sites, and click on Sites button.
Add your website to the zone (use the full address, starting with http:// )
You may have to clear the box labelled "Require server verification (https:)
...... "
Click OK

Click: Custom Level
Scroll down to User Authentication
Select "Automatic Logon with current username and password"
Click OK, click OK

In FrontPage, if you are prompted for the password, tick the box "Remember
this password"

Note that the web may now publish or open without any prompt for UserId or
Password.

you double click the URL in the FP File Menu |
Open Site dialog where you see the list of URL you have previously open in FP.

There is no list of URLs in the Open Site dialog box.

I tried that previously and it did not work. I tried it again just
now, and it still does not work. FP 2003 still requires me to type in
the user name and password each time I update the URL from the FP web.

Hi Chuck

In IE do you have Tools - Internet Options - Content - Autocomplete (all options selected) ?

Also delete the online site (http:/...) from My Network places and open the site using File Open Site and typing in the full URL as
http://www.yoursitename.com/

I'm having the same problem as Chuck, or so I think. And I've been
trying to solve it for days with no luck.

I've been running FP2002 on a desktop machine with Win 2000 Pro.

I'm now trying to move my web to a new machine using Win XP Pro and FP 2003.

IIS is installed as well as server extensions.

To get my web on the new machine, I'm opening the web on my ISP's server
and attempting to publish back to my machine.

A pop up window appears asking for a logon ID and password. I put in my
machine's user ID and PW and it won't take it.

What softare is generating the window requesting the PW?

I looked around in IIS and found a place where it speaks to an IIS
generated password. Is this the problem?

I tried the solution provide below and that didn't work either.

A solution is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

The FrontPage Extensions are asking for the UserId and Password. Use the
User name and Password you set up when you configured the FrontPage
Extensions. Note that the password *must not* be left blank.

Ah, but it only "did it" until I shut down windows for the night.
Then, the next time I started that web in FP 2003 I had to fill in the
user name and password again. Frustrating.

Hi Stefan

You are ever the knowledgeable one. That did it. Thanks so much.
