Reloaded XP, log on problem

A

Alex Magdaleno

I had to reformat my hard drive and reload XP. I now have a "log on"
window open up on start up. I just want to be able to turn on the computer
and come back in a few minutes and find XP up and running. Now I have to
come back and click on something and then wait while it loads my settings.
On shut down, I also get a window called " shut down windows" and it asks
me what I want to do. I want to avoid that step also.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi,

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. In the user list, click on the user that you want to be the
default. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

I did that and it still asks me for a log on. I want to elminate that step
completely and have Windows load automatically when I turn the computer on.
I want to come back an find it up an running.

Hi,

Are you using the Welcome screen or the classic logon?

Hi,

Control Panel/Users/"change the way users log on and log off".

I've done that before but tried it again. The only difference is with one
method I have to type in a password and with the other I don't.
But I still have to press enter before it will load Windows. Before I had
to reinstall Windows I would just turn the computer on and it would load
Windows by itself. I could leave as soon as I turned it on and come back to
a running Windows?
