reloading win xp on my dell laptop using the dell disc. It goes to the set
up page and gets to the installing windows part saying set up will complete
in 34 min and then the screen goes out, like it goes to sleep. screen will
not come back up i have had to hold power button to turn off and start again.
I have waited up to an hour for it to finish and bring screen up. The fan
keeps running like its doing something but no flickering lights. Before it
blanks out the disc starts spinning like its starting something then the
screen goes. I can't go back, reboots back to setup screen everytime so I'm
stuck.

By chance do you have onboard video as well as an agp or pci card. If so
it's possible that during the installation the opposite video output is
being activated and stopping the one you have your monitor cable attached
to.

Have a look at:-

That is exactly what is happening but I don't know how to get out of setup
and or how to fix the problem. It is a laptop with nothing hooked up to it
besides the power cord. In the setupapi.log the last lines started with E077
windows\Inf\iis.inf" required line not found. I am wondering if this is
something a novice can fix.
