Reinstalling windows from original CD

A virus caused me to reformat my hard drive again. I reinsatlled windows XP
home edition. At the end of the setup, I was required to input the product
ID code. After I rebooted the computer, I got an information bubble in the
lower right hand corner of the screen instructing me to "click here for
product activation." I clicked on the bubble and a screen came up telling me
that the product had already been activated and to click on the OK button.
After I clicked on the OK button, the system started and I could work After
about 5 minutes, another information bubble popped up saying that I had X
number of days to activate. I ignored it until the next time I started up my
computer. The same bubble popped up with the days counting down. I would do
the same thing, try to activate only to have the popup screen say that the
product was already activated. On the last day, windows prompted activation
again, after the popup screen said that the product was activated, I hit OK
and was logged off. Now windows is caught in a loop. when it prompts me to
activate, i hit yes and it brings up the screen that says that the product is
activated. I then hit OK and i get logged off. Ever seen this?

Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".
While in Safe Mode, rename the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files located in the
\Windows\system32 folder.

This will force activation on the following boot,
but should remove the message that you are already activated message.
Sometimes if these files get corrupted, they can cause this type of problem.
