Reinstall & SP2

I need to reinstall Windows XP and my Windows XP disc is SP1. After
installing Windows and hardware drivers, is it best to download and install
SP2 before installing all my applications and programs or to install the
programs before SP2?
Thanks for your help,
David

It's always better to do a clean installation with sp2 integrated

Best to "Slipstream" your SP1 disk, before installing. This way you
avoid the post-install upgrade. Your install won't require a folder on
the drive ServicePackFiles, that takes up 400+ Megabytes. It also
avoids the $NT uninstaller folder that would hold the SP1 back out
data.
There are a number of web-sites that have step-by-step instructions
or tools to automate the process.

Here are the steps that I do:

1) Install XP (either original or SP1)
2) Install drivers
3) Install SP2, from original networked version of the SP2 install.
4) Process all remaining Windows Updates
5) Install anti-virus and firewall.
6) Install all other applications.

Note: I install anti-virus, and firewall, after processing SP2(and other
updates) since I have encountered installation corruptions with anti-virus
when install SP2 and some other updates. Just be careful since your PC is
exposed to the perils of the Internet.

Thank you, Yves Leclerc

I don't quite understand Step 3: -
Install SP2, from original networked version of the SP2 install.

Do you mean run Windows update to get SP2?
Thanks,
David

I would choose to get SP2 on the drive (and all post-SP2) before
installing any applications.

That's for two reasons:

1. You should get the security enhancements in SP2 as soon as
possible.

2. In the unlikely even that any of the updates cause a problem,
and you want to do yet another reinstallation, you won't have
wasted any extra time installing applications.

By the way, rather than install the SP1 CD, then install SP2, I
would create a slipstreamed SP2 and install from it. See
