reinstall older version of installer

XP Pro SP3
I have installer v4.5, but i have an app which will only install with v3 or
3.1. When I try to reinstall either one of those I get a message about my
service pack version and I'm told "there is no need to install this update".
Well, yeah there is a need to install it.
I still have a few stations with SP2, can I copy the appropriate files from
them and, if so, which files to I need?

Bill,

Was 4.5 installed prior to the application of or post application of
SP3? If it's the former the only way to revert to 3/3.1 is to uninstall
SP3 or try the steps listed here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346

It it was installed post the application of SP3 then you should be able
to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs.
