Registry Cleaning??

W

Willard

After Uninstalling Acronis Tru Image Home 11
(License: (.............................),
I am left with (regedit) non removable Items of "acronis" in the registry:
HKLM\Software\Acronis
(and)
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ACRSCH2SVC

This causes Event Viewer Error:

The AcrSch2Svc service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the path specified...

HOW CAN I CLEAN UP MY REGISTRY??

You can set the AcrSch2Svc service startup type to disabled
Start|Run|services.msc

You can modify/delete any registry key by running regedt32.exe and setting
the appropriate permissions. Whether you should is another question.

It means your uninstall wasnt completely successful.
As such you might want to post to Acronis help
Or you could try reinstalling, then rebooting, and then uninstalling and
finally rebooting

The error in of itself is causing any problem but to stop it you can delete
the following key. Be sure you know how to backup and restore the registry
before editing.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\AcrSch2Svc

Reinstalled Tru Image and uninstalled again..
Deleted "HKLM\Software\Acronis" o.k. but:
I am still left with "HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_ACRSCH2SVC"
I have tried posting for Acronis help twice, but they don't answer,
possibly because I have had the program for about a month..

Perhaps you haven't rebooted? You might do better to deal with the actual
problem you're having rather than deleting parts of the registry you don't
understand.

=============
regedit and regedt32 will not allow rename, modify or delete??
=============
No, it won't but it lets you modify the permissions. Right-click the key
whose permission structure you wish to modify, then use regedit.exe to
rename, modify or delete it.

Forget about ControlSet001. It's the CurrentControlSet that counts.

Regedt32 right click does nothing (dead).. regedit still can't delete,
modify or rename..

It's quite a few years since I last used regedt32.exe (WinXP no longer needs
it), so my memory may not have been as accurate as I had hoped, but to
resolve your problem I located a Win2000 machine and checked things out for
you. How can I put this diplomatically? Perhaps by suggesting that you may
need new glasses. Right on top of regedt32.exe there are a number of
pull-down menus. One of them is labelled "Security". Give it a try!

Tried "Security" to give permission for "administrator and all users" full
control to delete "Acronis" keys and sub keys..
But I still can't delete Acronis??

You probably neglected to modify the subkey permissions. Note also that you
may be chasing a phantom. I have never noticed any effect of the keys found
under the "Legacy" heading.

While you're playing with your machine: Have a look at your clock / time
zone settings. You're posting in the future.
