Regedit/Run entries

J

Johnathan

I am trying to tell if I have anything strange going on that I need to know.
When I look at the Run history I see entries that I never entered. When I
run Regedit why does it open to a specific folder that I have never opened
to begin with. What determines where Regedit opens to if not the last place
where I was hen I was using it? My system is running slow and I am trying
to figure out why.

Jonathan,

If you suspect that your computer has spyware, you may want to get
started here:
THE PARASITE FIGHT
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

When you open the registry editor, it opens up at the last place you
navigated within it.

I am not concerned with Spyware in the sence of looking for apps to install
to remove it. I have several but am interested in learning more about
specific things like why when I opened the run menu I saw entries that I did
not type in and why when I run Regedit does it open to a place I have never
been to. I think that another application is entering commands that appear
in the run menu. I am trying to figure out if this is a normal activity.
I do thank you for the link to 'The Parasite Fight'. One I have not learned
enough about and will be spending time with that.

Regards.

Jonathan,

Someone in your absence must have fiddled around with your computer
and accessed the registry. Is your computer password protected ? Do
you have snooping room-mates ?

No one here but me and the mouse. That's why I was sure it was an
application. I was at one time expecting that tweak was responsible but this
time it is not that app. Are there any know issues of this happening that
are legit? I always keep a clean malware free System that I know of. I am
wondering if it might also be a Windows Update issue. The habits of this
feature is very annoying but that will be another post I guess.

The items that you see in the MRU list of the Run dialog box are only the ones that have been typed
there by the user.

True. But the visited websites don't appear in the Run dialog box if you simply click the down
arrow. They appear when you start typing something along the lines of "http://...."

So then what you are saying is that I am not seeing anything that I did not
type in myself. I can see a whole list of things there that I have idea
what they are like 'net share PWs /delete' and many others. I have never
seen these commands in my life. No one has access to this system so I must
be dreaming then.

What would I gain by clearing the run list? If not for viewing this list I
would not be posting this message. As a matter of fact I have TweakUI set
do clear this and other entries but I still see that long list.
