Reducing PST file by COMPACTING

The size of the OUTLOOK.PST file is larger than the size reported in
\OutlookProperties\Folder Size by about 30%.

The size of the OUTLOOK.PST file did not decrease neither after deletion of
several large messages nor after a COMPACT operation.

How can one decrease the size of the OUTLOOK.PST file?

OS: Windows 2000, OUTLOOK Version 9.0.0

You have to perminently delete a significant amount before Compact will show
any reduction.
What size is the pst?

Compacting the .pst file may take several passes and generally will work
when you have deleted 10% or more of the items from the .pst (size wise, not
item wise).
