Reappearing folders

Is there a way to get WinXP sp1 to stop re-creating folders
in My Documents -- i.e., "My eBooks" and "My Pictures"? If
so, how? I'd like to be able to deleted them and keep them
deleted.

Thanks.

There has been quite a bit of discussion in this group from people who
dislike the "My eBooks" folder as to where it comes from (not the
operating system but from third-party software, Adobe I believe) and
how to get rid of it. Do a search for the issue using Google Groups and
the Advanced option, searching specifically for this newsgroup.

The "My Pictures" is a system file and as far as I know you cannot get
rid of it. It's part of Windows.

I took a look. I didn't find anything that suggested how to
get rid of it. And while it didn't see anything that said
it's impossible to get rid of it, that seemed to be the
implication. Does that accord with your recollection? I ask,
because if that's the case, I won't search further.

Thanks.

Though as version 6 is a complete piece of shit I reinstalled Ver 5.
That will solve it and you get a working acrobat.

Had I realized from the start that it was an Adobe issue, I
might have realized there wasn't much to be done. Version 5
insisted on creating an "Adobe" folder which couldn't be
done away with, so why would version 6 be different? I
didn't initially realize it was Adobe's fault this time
because they gave the folder a more generic name this time.

I've noticed, by the way, that people in the Adobe Acrobat
news group get really defensive and angry if someone asks
about how to get rid of the Adobe folder. The idea "it's
*my* computer" apparently doesn't register there.

Anyway, I don't consider Acrobat "worth" the expensive price
tag, but I'm forced to use because I occasionally have to
create pdf documents in my business, and there also are
times when it saves me a lot of time being able to convert a
pdf to rtf. My experience so far is that version 6 does the
latter job better than version 5. Since I don't need the
thing for anything else, I'll stick with version 6.

But thanks for the link.

I was refering to reader not the full product. Version 5 read pdf great. Also doesn't crash as often. Also better user interface. You did see the My EBooks fix on that link, yanking a plugin.

Actually, at the time I responded to your earlier message I
hadn't -- read too quickly, I guess, and thought the
solution, if there was one, might be a few messages down.
However, after I posted, I looked again and saw the
reference to deleting the ebook.api file. I didn't delete
it, I just renamed it to disable it, and voila, the My
eBooks folder stays deleted. Since I have no need of
whatever it was I disabled, this is good.

Thanks.
