Read messages in the inbox are automatically deleted

All read messages in the inbox are automatically deleted when I switch
between different folders in windows mail or if I close the program. what
happened, I did not change any settings?

Please help.

Do you have Show All Messages selected?

Do these messages actually go to the Deleted Items folder?

Truly, I am very grateful, Thank you so much, I completely forgot about show
all messages, I don't recall changing the setting.

But yes, you are correct, somehow, I had selected "hide read messages"
