Inbox messages cannot be found

I get a "message cannot be found" screen when I try to read my inbox messages
received before 4 PM today. This applies to messages read earlier, and those
not yet read. I can read all inbox messages received after that time. I was
installing a program at that time, ran into problems, and uninstalled it. Did
mail file get corrupted some how?
