Reactivating Windows XP

S

Stan

I am having boot problems and system restore cannot
complete so I feel my next option is to reinstall XP. If
I do this, is it necessary to reactivate the program? If
so how does one go about getting a new activation code.
Boot problems began when I installed my scanner, Umax
Astra 2200, seems the vistascan program was causing
shutdown problems. I uninstalled vistascan but now am
having boot problems. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Reply can be posted here or email me at (e-mail address removed).

Thank you.

You'll need to call Microsoft to reactivate - it's not a big deal.

Note - posting your valid e-mail address in a newsgroup post, or in your
news account settings, is a surefire way to get spam and SWEN and other
viruses sent to you....see http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm for help
in the future, but note that now that your address is out there, there's not
much you can do other than changing your address.

If Windows XP needs to be reactivated, it will give you explicit
instructions on how to do this. So don't worry, reinstall Windows XP if
you're comfortable and it will let you know how if it's deemed necessary.

Hi

What are your boot problems?

You can reinstall XP and re-activate over the Internet. Have a look at the following article by MVP Alex Nichol:

http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.php

Please note if you decide to reinstall XP via either a 'Repair' install or a 'Clean' install you will have to reinstall all the Windows Updates:

"Clean Install Windows XP"

Dude

As long as your hardware hasn't drastically changed, you
should be able to re-activate online.

Hi Stan:
A quick way for reactivation is to click start/ run and type without the
quotes "oobe/msoobe /a" click ok and the resulting wizard will inform you if
you need to reactivate or not.
Good luck with your project.

Just activate normally. If it's been more than 120 days, it will
go through over the internet as easily as it did before. If it's
fewer than 120 days, you'll be given an 800 number to make a
voice call to; just explain what you've done and they will
activate you over the phone. That's also quick and easy--normally
under five minutes.
