Re-install

My son has a PC with XP Home pre-installed and a Recovery CD. I wanted to do
a clean install to start again. I chose a new install from the CD instead of
repair. I created a user name (mine) that was different from the old one
(son's). Everything has gone fine but the old user name, docs and programms
are still there. The installed programmes do not appear in Add
Hardware/Software to uninstall (as they were installed under the old user)
and they are taking up about 13GB of space on a 40GB drive. Can anybody tell
me what is the best way to clean up the PC as I want to reinstall everything
again and start with as near a new machine as possible. I know I have to
re-install all the updates etc but am prepared to do that. Can I format the
drive and then install XP from a recovery CD... bit of a novice at a
re-install unfortunately

Thats exactly what you need to do-format before recovery, usually the mfg
supplies several cds,one would format other would run after format and
install the OS.If format isnt an option with what you have, simply go to the
hd mfg web site,download the MS-DOS utility,format a floppy in MS-DOS,
install the hd utility to the floppy, then youd boot to floppy, format the hd.

right click on drive c,click on format,it will give you a warning, click on
yes you want to continue.then re xp your pc.or go computer managment in the
aministrators options on the control pannel and click on format c.turn off pc
then on again press del on your keyboard till the boot screen apears and set
boot from cd-rom and save and exit then you can start your reinstall.the
problem you had can be a problem with xp ing over millenium as i had the same
problem.the two softwares entwine together.
