re; Disk defragnmenter makes my computer shut down

Ha sanyone experienced the problem of running disk
defragmenter on Windows XP, only to have the computer
shut itself down repeatedly. Only system restore to a
time before running defrag will help. But Ultimately, i
badly need to defragment my hard disk.

Thanks

Make sure you try it in safe mode,re-boot tapping F8 key
before windows boots up,select safe mode without network.
Go to control panel,administative tools,disk
management,defrag....Post back with results...Good luck.

Only a hardware issue or a driver issue can cause Windows to crash.

When Windows crashes, does it display a STOP code and tell you which driver
is crashing the system? You may need to configure Windows to NOT
automatically reboot and to perform a full dump in order to get this
information.
