Radeon 9200 lost after upgrade attempt

After unsuccessfully trying to upgrade drivers for Radeon 9200 on my XP,
system froze.

After reboot, XP will not recognize the hardware card for Radeon 9200, even
after System Restore

Check your BIOS (SetUp), and make sure AGP is enabled. Also confirm PNP
(plug'n'play), is enabled. Try booting up in Safe Mode. You did install
the proper drivers?

yes they seemed to be, following ATI's references

Well, after power off over nite, all seems OK

A "soft" reboot wasn't enuf

Now I'm a little hesitant to try again to update the video drivers, and SP2

Sometimes you need to reboot, more than once, for plug'n'pray to figure
things out. A cold boot, (shut down), may be more effective, and just a
warm boot, (restart), also.

I have SP2 running on two systems with no issues.

Always remove the old drivers first thru the Control Panel - Add/Remove then
reboot - cancel the 'New Hardware Found' messages and run the new driver
installer. Never install new drivers over old ones - you
may get away with it but its bad practice and often stuffs up a machine.

Now that's advice I've never seen before and sounds very right
I have 3 items

ATI Control Panel
ATI Display Driver
ATI DVD Decoder

Remove all or just item 2?

Thanks
