quicktime XP startup annoyance

B

Beck

When Quicktime player is installed it always puts itself in the startup
registry. I don't like unnecessary programs running in the background when
I start up my computer. When I remove it from startup it stays gone until I
use the program. Next time I need to use the program it always puts itself
back in the startup.
Is there any way of preventing the startup entry everytime I use it? I have
checked the program settings and cannot find anything that relates to it. Is
there some kind of registry hack I can use to stop it going into startup?
thanks.

Is there a qttask.exe shortcut in >>>

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your name here\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Go to C:\Program Files\Quicktime and rename qttask.exe to qttask.exe.OLD

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Nothing in the startup folder. Thats the thing, it never puts itself to the
startup folder but in the startup as listed in msconfig.

You're welcome Beck. Looks like the program should resolve the problem,
though I've not tested it (nor have QT installed here)

I would prefer not to use QT but unfortunately I need to as my camera uses
it. Same for Real Player, thats a pain too but many streaming services
insist on it :-(

There are Quicktime alternatives. Do a search.

Quicktime is Apple's way of getting back at PC users.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted. There are others, too, so if that one
doesn't work try another.
