Question about calibrating monitor

J

Jack Crane

On page 32 of the manual for Photoshop Elements 2, in the section "Getting
ready to calibrate", there is this: "Set you desktop to display neutral
grays only, using RGB values of 128. For more information see the
documentation for your operating system." I've been unable to find this
documentation for Win XP.

Please tell me how to display neutral grays only.

Thanks,

Jack Crane

Hi Jack:

This probably has to do with the gamma setting and color temperature
for your monitor. In order to obtain a neutral contrast (gamma) and
color temperature, (both adjustments required for neutral grays)
you'll need to set them from the display dialog for your video card.
Refer to the documentation and or help files for your video card to
learn how to make those two adjustments.

Regards.

Go to Control Panel - Display, and the drop arrow beside Color. I think
the bottom right patch is such a grey, but you can click Other and set
those three values 128 against each of Red Blue and Green.

click Apply; then set Background to (None) at the top so as to have the
uniform grey desktop

Do you have the Control Panel Adobe Gamma? I think it is installed with
Photoshop Elements 2. It will make basic adjustments. Your video
adapter in the Color tab might also have brightness, contrast, and gamma
adjustments. Here is a site that illustrates what these are all about:

Hi Jack

This is a really lazy piece of work on the part of the Adob
documentor. Here's what to do

1. Right-click in an empty spot on your desktop and choose Propertie
from the pop-up menu
2. Click the Desktop tab
3. Set the Background to (None)
4. Click the down-arrow on the Color box and click the dark gra
square at the right end of the top row. If you want to make sure thi
is correct, you can always click the Other button in the Color box
click the gray square fourth from the left on the bottom row of th
large palette, and take a look at its RGB (Red, Green, Blue) values
You'll see they are all 128. That's what you want
5. Click OK to close the dialog(s)

Cheers

Ros
