change desktop to display neutral grays

How do i change the desktop to display neutral grays using RGB values of 128? I need to do this in order to calibrate my monitor to use Adobe Photoshop Elements and i thank anyone for their help. Using Gateway FPD 1830 flat panel monitor, Windows XP, 512 mb ram, 120gb hard drive, nvidia video card.

If what you're wanting to do is change the desktop background to the grey,
right click on a blank area, select Properties, Desktop tab, set background
picture to (None) then click on the color selector down arrow to open color
selector. Click the Other button and there dial in RGB values all 128.
Apply it.
