qic files to bkf

Where is the file located? If it is on a CD how did you copy the file to the
media? What software did you use to burn the file to the CD? Have you tried
copying the file to the Hard Drive and then restoring from there? Did you
use a packet formatted CD-R/W to save to. This would be a CD formatted with
a program like Direct CD from roxio (part of Easy CD Creator) or a program
like InCD (comes with Nero). If you used an older version of one of those
apps then XP won't be able to read from the disk.

How large is the file? Is the file part of a spanned set or spilt file? If
so perhaps there is a missing or corrupt component.

Do you have access to a Windows Me system that you can see if you can open
the file on?

It works. I just set up Windows Me then installed the Backup utility from
the Me CD and created a backup. I transferred it to XP and used Backup MyPC
to open and restore the backup.

Walt check the Help file for Backup MyPC. Look under catalog->import

anyway after you launch Backup MyPC and select the option to Restore. You
should eventually get to a screen that looks like this
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/images/restore1.jpg
Make certain you have Restore from listed as "File" then click the button
called Device View. Browser to the location of your .QIC file and OK
through. Make certain to change location for "Where to restore". The app
works.

This is the one that I tried yesterday after you posted it. I get the
message that it can't find a catolog. When I did the backup it was with
Win
Me
There is no guarantee that the Windows 95 version of msbackup
will
work
however I have tested this one

http://downloads.zdnet.co.uk/downloads/download/1003-2242-10176011.html
and
it works for me with .QIC files created under Windows 98 and
moved to
a
Windows XP system.

I tried installing the msbackup program that was suggested in a
previous
post from the dos prompt. It starts to install then says that
it has
to
test
the computer. While doing so it says there is a 16 bit porgram
(something
like that) that is trying to access the hard drive don't know
if I
should
let it continue or not?
you are welcome. Happy New Year to you for 2004.
