Hi,

Have you shutdown your cable modem and reset it yet?

Hi,

Ok, then the next step is checking for blocking due to spyware, etc. Suggest
you download, install, and run adaware6 from www.lavasoft.de to aid in the
removal.

Also, if you open a command prompt (start/run cmd), are you able to ping web
sites?

Hi,
I already have Adaware and run it every other day. I don't know how to Ping
or what that is?|
One thing I noticed while fiddling last night - in the "Services" bit of
ADmin tools it says that "DNS Client" is Disabled - is this relevant? I
haven't changed it since last modem changed but don't know if it could have
been effected somehow? When I try to enable it I get the message "Error 5:
Access Denied"

I don't know if any of this is relevant to the problem but any help
gratefully received!

Thanks,
Blurbubble )

Hi,

Ping can be used from the command prompt to see if your system can "talk" to
another. Start/run cmd, run "ping www.google.com", if you get a reply, that
means your connection is active. Your ISP should be able to provide you with
your modem's address, but many simply use 192.168.0.1, you want to see if
you can ping this address, then one beyond it to see if the problem is
internal or external.

Hi,
Thanks for explaining that to me )
AS luck would have it the ISPs engineer came out again Thursday afternoon
and this time it was one who knew what he was doing! It turns out, as I had
tried to suggest to them several days ago, that the problem was with the
actual outside cable connection being dodgy rather than anything to do with
my cable modem or computer!! All that grief and it could have easily been
remedied had the 1st engineer not been a total numbskull after all!!

Oh well, my broadband is back up and running now.

Thanks to all those who tried to help anyway ))
