Program received with Windows XP had suspected virus from windows.

My system included a program which stated that it was
from Microsoft, but, I was told that it was a virus which
will wipe out your computer. The program was in my new
computer when I received it. The name of the program
is " jdbgmgr.exe " and it's emblem is a teddy bear. My
computer had it entered in windows, in two places. Once
in "C:windows\last good\system32\" and
in "C:windows\system32". Norton and the other Virus
detecters do not detect that it is in the computer. Can
you check this out and tell me if I was miss informed?

This is a hoax Gary. The file you mentioned, jdbgmgr.exe, is a needed
windows file and should not be deleted.

If your virus protection is up-to-date and showing no signs of infection
then this is what I would be inclined to believe. You should always check
out the validity of virus warnings or chain-mail emails by visiting websites
such as www.sophos.com (for virus info) or www.breakthechain.org (for hoax
email info).

Hope this helps!!

Mike.

Greetings --

This is a very old hoax. If your antivirus software is current and
detects nothing, you're safe. Do nothing with the named file, delete
the email, and tell whomever sent you the original message to check
their facts before spreading rumors.

It's important to remember that almost _any_ email virus warning
is a hoax, designed primarily to bog down email systems by having
well-meaning but uniformed people send out hundreds of otherwise
valueless email warnings. When you receive a warning like this, the
*first* thing you should do is check its veracity at one or more of
the following web sites:
