Product ID

I recently upgraded my PC with larger Hard Disk, new Motherboard and a
faster Processor.

I was advised by the shop who carried out this work that my Windows XP had
to be reinstalled.

When the PC was returned I just happened to notice that the Product ID for
my Windows has changed on the last three digits.

The mechanic who carried out the reinstallation of Windows informed me that
every time Windows is reinstalled the Product ID will change.

I do not doubt his statement, but would like to hear from others, who
experienced the same and whether they then encountered any problems with
Microsoft Updates, Technical Assistance etc.

Thank you in anticipation

probs with Microsoft updates. about the ID changing !!!

change whot is on the CD with out a burner. So how can

That has happened in a similar way with earlier versions of Windows
since the 25 character product keys came in. I think it is used to
distinguish 'instances' of installation and is probably derived from the
date and time. I have no reason to think it will affect updates or
activation: it might affect the registration of you as owner, if you
bother with that: if you were to call for support it could be seen that
you had done a reinstall since registering

There is NO product ID on ANY Windows XP CD. I think you are confusing the ID with the Product Key, which is the 25 digit code you
have to enter during the install, it's not the same thing, and the Product Key is also NOT on the CD.
