Probs getting rid of unwanted toolbars

J

Jeff

Looks like I'm having a problem others have talked about.
I have found an ISEARCH and YAHOO toolbar added to my IE.
I downloaded Adaware and ran it. It found 7 items that I
then deleted, but the unwanted toolbars are still
present. I can't unselect them because they are "greyed
out", so I'm guessing it has been locked somehow.

I saw a mention of a solution for the locked toolbars, but
when I try to go to:
http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/IEFAQ.htm > #32 Toolbars are
locked
I get page cannot be displayed. I get that same error
just trying to get to mvps.org. Should I be trying
another address or something.

Thanks to any suggestions or answers.

Here's the fix from that page...

This is due to the restrictions set in the registry. Open Registry Editor
[Regedit.exe] and navigate to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explo
rer]

In the right-pane, look for the entry "NoBandCustomize". Delete this value
or and set it to 0.
In the right-pane, look for the entry "NoToolbarCustomize". Delete this
value or and set it to 0. This restores the missing "Customize" option.

For Yahoo companion ( http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303047 )
On the Yahoo! Companion browser toolbar, click the Edit button (it appears
as a pencil), and then click Remove Yahoo! Companion on the shortcut menu
that appears.

NOTE: If you cannot see the Edit button, expand the Yahoo! Companion
toolbar.
You receive the following message:
Uninstalling will remove Yahoo! Companion from your browser.
Do you still want to remove Yahoo! Companion?

Click Yes.
You receive the following message:
Yahoo! Companion has been uninstalled. Please restart your browser.

Click OK.
Quit Internet Explorer, and then restart it.

Post back if you need any more help.

Don,
Thanks for your help. This all worked great. I still
have the isearch toolbar come up when I start up IE, but I
am now able to right click and deselect it. I did a
search for isearch files on my pc and deleted some isearch
toolbar folder. I still have a file called
auto.isearch.com that looks to be part of my history
folder for IE. Is there any way to not have isearch
toolbar start up everytime with IE?

Thanks again for any help.

Ran Ad-Aware scan as said in that site? It should remove the bar.
