Does anybody have the knowledge and time to help with this problem. The problem has just started today with no obvious reason. Yesterday everything was OK. When I try to boot I get the black screen with \windows\system32\config\system maged or missing. I have the facility of PC Angel but that tells me I will loose all my appliations. I have tried to use a copy of XP on CD and that says to stop ith the ftal bluescreen. Any ideas?

You will need a "real" copy of XP, then follow ...

Diagnostic software are, err, a money spinner. ;)

Exact error message would help me further. :)

The first message I got was to try and repair XP. If I try that with my copy of XP I end up being told that windows stopped loading to prevent damage to the comuter. The final reason is listed as
pci.sys Address F78350BF base at F782E000
