Problem with Task Manager

Hi

I have a problem with Windows Task Manager. When I hit ctrl-alt-del to bring it up, it comes up, but just for about not quite a full second, then disappears. It appears on my taskbar icons, but when I move my mouse over it, it disappears as well. I'm having the same problem with another program I installed as well, ZoneAlarm. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks, Jon

This symptom is caused by Viruses. It is advisable to run a full system scan. Be sure you update the anti-virus software definitions.

What's the best antivirus software out there? Or which would you recommend? I have one came with my computer (McAfee), but it's having the same problems my Task Manager and ZoneAlarm are having, so I need a new one. Thanks!

McAfee itself is OK. First, you need to stop the virus [processes]. Then, eliminate the virus using McAfee. If you are unable to open MSCONFIG, download the Emergency Utils creator tool from MVP Doug Knox's site:

Emergency Msconfig, Regedit, Task Manager

After running this tool, goto C:\EmergencyUtils and run MSConfig1.exe. Startup tab, Disable All except your Anti-Virus program. Restart and do a full system scan.
