I've just recently purchased a Network attached Disk (Vgear's Landisk) which
utilitses SMB to work as a file server.
I have a simple setup.
Cable modem to router.
Router to desktop via 10/100
Router to notebook via router's inbuilt wireless network. Notebook is a
802.11b.
I've attached the Landisk to the router via the ethernet port.
Autoconfigured it.
Both computers can detect it and read files from it.
BUT... the desktop has no problems reading and writing large amounts of
files at any time.
The notebook on the other hand hangs when I try to assess a directory on the
Landisk with a huge number of files. I've also tried to connect the notebook
via the ethernet connector to increase the speed over the lan but to no avail.
Notebook is running XP home with SP2
Desktop running XP pro.
Any chance it may be a network setting problem?
Firewall for notebook has been turned off.
No other 3rd party firewalls installed.
Thanks!
