Map Network Drive Requires UserID and Password

I have a Maplin LanDisk. I can do nearly everything I should be able to do. I
can access the admin web pages, I can access it if I connect it direct via
USB and I can access it via ftp on the network. However, if I plug it into my
Netgear wireless router and try to Map Network Drive... it takes a few
seconds then comes up with a screen asking me for a user id and password.
Whatever I type in fails and it just keeps coming back with the same screen.
It also does this if I plug it straight into my pc so I don't think the
router is part of the problem.
I found a knowledge base article 887429 which talks about Xp digitally
signing SMB connections which sounds to me to be what the problem is. The
drive uses SMB and I have setup two directories to share (via the admin
pages). I tried changing the registry entry as per the article but that did
not work.
I also found article 281248 which says I have to have the Guest account
active. That didn't work either.
I even changed the firewall port 445 as per article 840634.
I've checked the I/P address allocated by the router and the workgroup
matches my pc. I've tried everything I can think of but still no luck. I'm
running XP with sp2. I tried on a Windows 2000 machine and got the same
problem.
Please can someone help.

This is John. Just thought I ought to let anyone who reads this know that
I've fixed the problem. I did what article 840634 stated about openning port
445 in the Windows firewall. This did not work but eventually I realised that
I also had Zone Alarm firewall running as well. I changed it to set the
network drive up as a trusted zone and it all works fine now.

You are making a big mistake if you have two firewalls running. One is
quite sufficient.
