Problem when opening files/folders:

Hi Ya'all,
When I double click to open folders, Search Companion opens rather than the folder. When I right click, most folders have in this order: Search>Explore>Open. I don't know how it got changed but it use to be Open>Explore>Search.

This is a real pain, 'specially cuz I'm use to dbl left clicking to open the folder...so now I have to close 'Search'..then right click folder..then scroll to 'Open'..all to just open a folder!

I will adore you if you can tell me how to fix this!!

The default action for folders is search instead of open on Windows XP. As a
result, when you double-click a folder, the Search Companion opens instead of the
folder.

This problem can occur if you click the Advanced button with File Folder selected
on the File Types tab of Folder Options. This removes "none" from the Default
string value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell.

*** Resolution ***
Edit the registry and set the Default string value in the following registry keys
to "none":

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shell

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

Rick,
Im not sure if I did what the instructions in Doug's site right. I clicked on the "download" and clicked "open". The problem now is when I double click a folder it now opens at a "command" line.

What did I do wrong?

Thanx,

Hi,

You should download (save), then run it. Not sure why it would default to
the command line though.
