Problem since most recent windows update

Alright so I ran windows update on thursday evening before heading to
a LAN party. I usually run it once ever Sunday though I ran it a bit
early so I was fully updated and ready to LAN. After the update I
noticed 2 new folders on my C drive.

The first one is called 575e3ea9d0f6b2f288fb10967c171c92
the second one is called 631d4f9bec0ad93ec4f2b04c. Inside both of
these folders is a folder called update. Inside the 2nd one is an
application called update. Inside the first one is also an application
called update and 2 dll files. The first one named updspapi.dll the
second one wpdinstallutil.dll

I did a bit of reading and learned these are associated with windows
update, which coincides well with the fact that they appeared right
after the update. On Friday I installed some new hardware, I moved
from 1gb of pc2100 to 2gb of pc3200. I watched my 3dmark05 score drop
from 3400 prior to the upgrade to 2800 afterwards. I am slowly trying
to eliminate options to diagnose exactly what the problem was and
figured I would post a thread here inquiring as to whether or not
anyone had experience with these rogue folders being created after a
windows update and whether or not this could be something malicious.

Thanks in advance all advice is appreciated

They are not 'rogue folders' and were created suring the installation of the
updates.
They should be safe to delete.

I don't put much stock in 'performance scores' - too many variables.

- Make sure you have the latest hardware drivers for your video card/network
card/chipset from the manufacturers.
- If you think it was one of the last updates that did you in - remove them
from the add/remove control panel with 'Show Updates' checked.
- If you actually ean updates every Sunday, you would have gotten no updates
this past week - since updates are released every second Tuesday of each
month.

@Abortet

I have experienced similar effects.

I had some weeks ago fund such folders and had them deleted (thought
that they belong to some software installation processes), now they
came up again this morning.

I have done a Windows Media Player update to version 11
1 some days ago, and also had installed a new printer.

I do windows updates regularily.

There is another strange effects for some days now: I have error
messages coming up while booting, telling me that drives cannot be
found. I have three such messages (and have also three card drives
with no media inserted). Do you also have such messages?

If you were interested , I could send you my email for direct
correspondence

Yeah I ended up speaking to the tech at my work and he informed me
that the folder creation was a normal part of windows updates that
happens periodically. It’s left over install files from the windows
media 11 series update. It’s harmless and can be deleted but I’m
leaving mine be as it’s not causing me any harm.

The 3dmark05 scores still baffle me but I’m buying a new gaming
computer in April so it’s not worth worrying about too much. I’m not
even running ddr2 or pci-e graphics or sata hdd’s. time to upgrade.
