Problem Sending Attachments from Microsoft Word

When I am working on a document in Word and go to "File/Send To/Mail
Recipient as Attachment", the e-mail is sent but the main e-mail dialogue box
stays open on the screen.

If I send the same document through Outlook as an attachment (i.e. I do not
go into Word) it works fine.

nb. Word is not my default e-mail editor as it causes other programs I use
to behave suspiciously.

We are having the same problem, but it happens on all kinds of attachments,
and the method of attaching them doesn't matter (sending a link from IE,
sending PDF files, etc. in addition to attachment Word documents). I opened
a case with Microsoft about it, but could not find consistent behavior - once
the email with "SEND" grayed out is closed, and the user immediately repeats
the exact same action, the email sends and closes correctly. So we closed
the case until I could find some consistency. If you can find some
consistent behavior or make it happen at will every time, please reply.
