Problem Reinstalling Windows XP

I had to replace the hard drive in a Toshiba Satellite A105 notebook and
can't get Windows XP to install. I tried using both the Microsoft Windows XP
disk as well as the recovery disk from Toshiba but they don't get any further
than loading the initial files for set up.

Does anyone have any suggetstions?

What exactly happens? Have you tried an alternate CD drive? Also, what
happened to the old drive - can it be cloned?

Don't have an external cd drive to hook up and the old HD is toast.

OK, so what exactly happens? It may be that other hardware has failed, as
well.

NotMe

I had a machine recently that would not accept any of my 16 "Genuine
Microsoft Windows XP" CDs.
It wouldn't boot from any of them, though all worked fine in other machines.
It did boot & allow me to install from a COPY of one of the CDs.
I don't know if it was something in the EMachine BIOS settings or what, but
it was strange.
Other CDs and DVDs seem to play fine in it now that XP is working.
I would check the fans, make sure it's not overheating.
I have had several machines, desktop and laptop, that would not stay up long
enough to load any OS until I fixed the overheat situation.
