Audio on laptop is silent after malware removal

I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S171 laptop and am having issues. It was
infected by smitfraud malware and is now cleaned up. However the sound is
really quiet. I can max everything out in all volume controls and even have
installed ac3filter and turned the gain up. I can barely hear music at a
whispers level. The customer said the sound was working perfectly before the
malware but now it is not working properly. I have tried uninstalling the
driver and reinstalling with a new driver. Also have tried doing a repair
install on windows XP and still am having the problems. Any help or
information would be much appreciated.

You should have checked vendor's mixer's settings deeply. There are
some settings are known to cause that kind of things. Especially,
multi-channel usage (eg 5+1) might need to be calibrated from the
manager/mixer software.

IIRC this model has an external volume control. Check on the RH side of the
PC case and adjust as required.

Ok thanks for you help. The mixers had already been checked. However I feel
like the biggest moron on earth. I spent half the day trying different
fixes. I finally found the problem. There is a volume knob on the front
next to the audio output ports that you can't see unless you look close
because it just blends in. So I did look for it in the beginning but didn't
see it. So I wasted half my day when all I had to do was turn that volume
knob up. Thanks all for your help.
