Problem permanently deleting VX2

Janet

Hi. I hope someone here can help me again. I am having problems with
spyware and hackers invading my system again
I have Windows XP and the spyware I have been using are.. Spybot Search and
destroy, SpySweeper, Guardwall IE, Spyware Blaster, Norton Anti virus and
Windows XP firewall. All are updated. When I run sweeps, which has been a
few times a day since this all started, the spyware detects VX2
BetterInternet, Look2Me, WebToolBar, and a few others. I have the sweepers
"fix" the problems, but they keep coming back.. and not just on reboot! I
get warnings while in OE about something taking over my home page, pop ups,
the usual annoyances. I am at a loss as to what to do to permanently get rid
of this. I thought I fixed it all weeks ago when I followed the manual
removal instructions.
It seems that every time I download a program,( and I DO pay for them..
never from warez sites) this happens.
Is there ANY software that actually will get rid of this?
I have only had this computer since December.. I don't want it to crash! Can
someone please advise me?
Thanks bunches!

You probably need to install the latest critical security patch MS04-011
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx

If you have not enabled your Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall,
here's how to do it.

If you prefer a third party firewall
Sygate Personal Firewall

Zone Alarm Firewall

To delete the trojans you need to download a trojan remover program like
"The Cleaner"
from www.moosoft.com

Also install Ad-aware 6 to remove spyware from your system it's higly
recommended http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/

Perform a virus scan of your system.

Also a virus scan.

Thank you for replying. I have so much spyware running, and all the ones I
have were recommended to me in a Beta group. It seems that every time I
download a new one, I wind up with a new host of problems, so I am leery
about downloading any more. I did have Zone alarm, and had alot of problems
with my OE, so I uninstalled it.
I was under the impression that the programs I have running are trojan
removers.. Spybot and Spysweeper. I also have Spyware Blaster, which is
supposed to keep the bugs from installing into my system in the first place.
That is why I don't understand why I keep having these problems. I think
that maybe the spyware is not deleting all of the regedit files of the VX2,
but manually, I can not find any.. yet it keeps coming back. Very
frustrating!
Thanks again

Hi Janet:

Some free anti-spyware programs do the job fine but since they are free, the
auto-detect feature is not active,
to enable that feature you have to buy a key and so make it "fully
functional".. one I know of is Ad-aware 6...
also keep in mind that you have to update anti-spyware programs just like
you would update an anti-virus program
and as often as posible as new parasites are being created every day and a
non updated program will not detect
the latest ones.

Any well known firewall will do a good job but you may need to change some
settings if it's giving you trouble.

Here are some links to read about VX2 and find out how your computer got
infected.
According to this you downloaded something with the VX2 included.

For more security related information read the response from Shenan Stanley
to Patricia's message tittled;
"Reply to Shenan Stanley on my original post"(about 26 hours after your
first post) that response is.. as he
calls it, "A small booklet on how to keep your computer secure, clean of
scum and more user friendly".
That response is like a good lesson on security, you should save a copy of
it for future reference.
There's only one thing I can add to that message; that is.. dont go on the
Internet while logged in as an
administrator because if a parasite invades your computer durings that time,
it will have your level of privileges..
a limited user account is a lot safer on the Internet.

There's a posibility a program you may have downloaded keeps recalling the
VX2 back trough the Internet
connection so you may have to uninstall that program for the problem to
finally end..

Another posible reazon the VX2 parasite keeps comming back may be that it
restores itself so you may have
to disable the system restore feature before you delete it. Keep in mind
that once you disable system restore
you loose all points of restoration and you'll have no point to restore to
in case you run into trouble.. so leave
this advice only as a last resort.

Ignore all previous instructions!. I found the answer!.. go to this link for
instructions to remove the DX2
and it's variants or download the removal tools you'll find there.

Hope this helps out..

Thanks for all this advice Juan. It is really appreciated. So far, today
there has been no sign of the VX2 on start up and my spyware hasn't detected
anything. I knew that about the free spyware. I have one that is free.. all
the others are paid for and I do update daily.
That link that you posted for the manual removal.. I did follow that a a
few days ago. the problem I am having is that none of those variances that I
am supposed to delete are showing up anywhere. I have searched every folder
in the registry, programs, windows... I have never found it.
My system is clean now according to Spysweeper and Spybot.. but I am still
getting some pop ups in Outlook Express.. so SOMETHING is still lurking. I
am not going to download anything else for awhile... every time I do this
stuff happens.I will definately take your advice about not surfing the net
as an administrator. I never even thought of that.
Thanks for your help
