Problem installing XP

Hey, i was just wondering if anyone here could help me out im having a
problem installing xp ive previously installed xp on the same system many
many times but when i tried to reinstall last week, the installer basically
stopped part-way through the installation and the monitor turned off, giving
the message "No signal input" . The only odd thing is that i can install and
run Windows Vista Beta without any such problems, Ive also tried using a
friends xp disc - same problem, ive also just bought a new hard drive as i
thought that was the problem, but once again the same thing happens. Ive
tried using a different graphics card but i still get this problem. Th
installation alwasy stops at the same point.

Anyone have any ideas? any help would be greatly appreciated.

ideally, you should disconnect
everything from the pc except kb
monitor and mouse. then you
really should remove the graphics
board and plug the monitor
into the standard port on the mobo.

then you can also test the ram with
a memory diagnostics freeware
from microsoft.com

you can download it and install
it on cd. the boot with it to begin testing.

the above may get you over the hurdle.

incidently, did you ensure that the new
hard drives' jumpers as set according
to the cable connectors and the bios
is syncronized as well?

Hi, thankyou for the swift reply i couldnt find the memory diagnostic test on
the microsoft site so i used memtes instead and it is showing no errors, also
my motherboard has no onboard graphics so no Monitor port but i have tried a
friends graphics card and i experienced the same problem. Th hard drive
jumpers are all correct aswell. The installation begins fine but freezes
while "installing devices" at 34 minutes remaing.

Thanks again for the reply, any other ideas?

Are you doing a clean install by wiping everything from the HD and/or
formating the HD. How about first using FDISK and delete the partition
on the HD and then try installing again by booting from the XP CD.

If you want FDISK program that you can run from the floppy then use
Win98SE startup disk. If you don't have this then download one from
here:

really its hard to say why it is stalling on you
from my end.

35 minutes into the install and freezes
on a device means that windows can't
install a device driver. But it appears that
which device is unknown. That is
why it is recommended that "everything"
be disconnected accept those that
are absolutely required during setup.

maybe the clue being that it is 35 minutes into
the setup it might be the point where
it reboots and initializes the installation
from the setup files that were transferred
onto the hd. It would also initialize
a generic super vga monitor to display
the set up status of windows.

During this session is where those dialogs for
entering the keys, etc.. begin to appear.
Possibly, windows can't initialize the third
party driver for your graphics card.

it might help to simply take that
harddrive and install it on a different
pc and do the setup installation from there.
then return the hd back into your system.

afterwards, because of hardware changes, you
would simply need to do a windows
repair to synchronize the files to your
system.

there is this website that might be
helpful

http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/index.html

sorry couldn't provide another ideas.
but basically, there is simply a device
that windows cannot setup on your
pc and i don't have supervision to see
what it might be....
