Installation of XP SP2 Hangs Up

The XP service pack 2 installation wizard hangs at the "Inspecting your
current configuration" screen. Anyone got any idea why ? ? Ive tried from
both the update centre and from a disc, with the same result. Computer is a
Dell 8300 with the usual prtogrammes on.

Perform a "clean boot", then proceed to install SP2.
