Problem: Catalyst 3.9 without DVD player

I installed Catalyst 3.9/MMC 8.7 without DVD since I only have the MMC 7.7
CD and have a serious problem.

The system works fine with Win 2k sp4, ATI MMC 7.7.0.1, Catalyst 2.1,
Cyberlinke Power VCR II 3.0 and TmpgEnc 2.5.

I use AIW8500DV to make SVCD. After capture, I use TmpgEnc 2.5 to trim the
video. Cyberlink Power VCR provides the mpeg 2 decoder my system needs. It
works great.

After the installation of Catalyst 3.9, I can only edit the original capture
of mpeg 2 file using TmpgEnc, not the second generation of mpeg 2 files. I
mean after editing once, I can't trim the resulting mpeg 2 file further.

I think somehow ATI MMC erases my system's mpeg2 decoder. I tried the
installation several times and found out if I don't run ATI MMC after the
installation, I can still run TmpgEnc and edit any mpeg 2 files without
restriction. But once I run ATI MMC 8.7 even just once, TmpgEnc 2.5 will
gray out if I loaded non-original mpeg 2 files.

Any suggestion or walkaround will be appreciated. Thanks!

I solved the problem. I upgrade the system from Direct X 9 to Direct X 9b.

Now I have also a minor problem. The sound is slightly distorted with a
little hiss when playback, but it is perfect when live. Any suggestion?
