"print to file" crashes programs

My newly installed HP 1220c printer crashes every program I try, when I
print to file.
The program running closes immediately without warning. Works fine printing
to paper, or to PDFs.

Got the latest driver from HP site, using Win2000 sp4, using the USB port,
ATI graphics card

Is it a port problem, possibly a conflict with Adobe Acrobat ?

Any ideas are welcome

Thanks

Try "print to file" a text file in Notepad. I suspect there is a problem
with the sub-directory that the file is being directed to.

Bob, wish you were right, crashed even notepad.

I read thru the readme file that came with the printer and it said top try
to turn off "bidirectional" comm on other printers installed. Can't seem to
find the dialog to get to that setting.

That would be located on the "Ports" tab of the Printer Properties. Just
a quick question tho. Why are you wanting to "print to file", when you
have the printer available?
