"Preparing to Install" window whenever I open My Computer, Recycle

Hi, my computer has been acting strange lately. Whenever I open My Computer,
My Documents, Control Panel, and Internet Explorer, I get a brief Windows
Installer window stating "preparing to install.." followed by the opening of
My Computer, My Documents, Control Panel, or Internet Explorer (whichever one
I opened). The "preparing to install" window remains very briefly and
everything opens in about a second. I haven't installed anything lately and I
was wondering why is it always like this? This happens every time I open
Windows based stuff. Other programs such as Firefox and Word don't have this
"preparing to install" window right before opening each respective
application. What could be the problem? Thanks a lot.

Hi hangsterthemonster,

Start Eventvwr.msc and see if there are any MsiInstaller entries for that
date.

See here for detailed information:
